  • October is SIDS Awareness Month. Placing baby on their back to sleep for all sleep times is the best way to reduce the risk of SIDS. Check out this interactive website to walk you through what a safe sleeping environment looks like: https://safetosleep.nichd.nih.gov/modules/custom/sts_interactive_room/html/index.html #SIDSAwarenessMonth #SafeToSleep

  • Babies don’t sleep in long stretches, and caregiver exhaustion is common and can be dangerous. If you or someone you know is caring for an infant and struggling to get enough sleep, please reach out! Oregon has resources like relief nurseries and the Parents Anonymous of Oregon Parent Helpline at 503-258-4416. You can also call 211Info to find local resources.

  • Struggling with getting your baby to sleep in their own crib? A bedtime routine can help babies learn when it’s time to sleep. Choose activities like breastfeeding or bottle feeding, reading a book, singing a song, giving a pacifier, then into bed you go! Staying consistent with your bedtime routine will help your baby learn.

  • One of the most important things you can do to prevent #SIDS is to place your baby on their back when putting them to bed.

  • Did you know that #breastfeeding can reduce the risk of #SIDS? Be sure to place baby back into their crib/bassinet that is close to your bed after each breastfeeding session. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwEU44FEGJU #SIDSAwarenessMonth #SafeToSleep #BabySleep

  • Grandparents: Couches & armchairs can be very dangerous for babies, especially if you fall asleep while feeding or comforting them. Remind others how to help keep your grandbaby safe during sleep. Learn more at https://go.nih.gov/ju0Yk4d. #SIDSAwarenessMonth #SafeToSleep

  • We all have a role to play to keep babies safe while they sleep. If you are a grandparent, family member, babysitter, or other childcare provider,
be sure to have a conversation with the parents about your plan to help baby sleep.
Following the same routines can help baby fall asleep, and using the safe sleep recommendations can ensure
    baby sleeps safely. https://safetosleep.nichd.nih.gov/reduce-risk/reduce

  • Are you concerned about your baby sleeping at a new child care facility? It can take time for your baby to learn to sleep in a new place, but there are things you can do to help this transition.

    • Ask the child care facility about their safe sleep practices and try to match your infant sleep routines at home.
    • Always place baby on their back, in a clutter free crib or bassinet, and without swaddling (swaddling is not allowed at child care).
    • Be patient with yourself, your baby, and the transition process.
